July 25th – Friday (Quince Day)
The Day
has arrived! There was a flurry of activity all day long. We had ladies show up
at 10 am to begin the cooking process for the Quince dinner. There was mopping,
raking, sweeping, moving of heavy objects, tables being set up, décor being
placed and hair. We had different party goers start showing up as early as 4
the event didn’t start till 6.
Have
you ever done hair for a wedding? Well this was very similar, only imagine a
wedding with a bridal party of 20 and where the median age is 13. We started
hair at about 12:30 and didn’t finish until 5:45. Arielle and the neighbor lady
did intricate braids and twist for the top half of their hair and then I put
ringlets in the hair that was left down. I am the ringlet master now just so ya
all know! Well Arielle and I grabbed our stuff and ran to our room to get
ourselves ready when we finished, since the event was suppose to start at 6. We
needed have rushed I think we started closer to 6:30.
The
service was lovely and the party afterwards was fun. The girls did all their
dances, Leo danced with a bunch of different people. We visited, ate, Leo threw
flowers and we played games. The festivities lasted until 11:30 that evening.
Arielle and I had a amazing time. We sat with some really fun people who were
willing to work with the language barrier to include us.
